Week 1:

Class intro.

Speaker: Terry McDonald, Director of St Vincent de Paul

Week 2:

Reading: Ch 1, 2, 3 in Greenlaw.

Assignment: (Due at beginning of class.) Project summary. Read one paper from a previous year’s group, available online at http://economics.uoregon.edu/honors Write a single spaced one page abstract of the project. This should have 3 paragraphs, on the research question, the methodology, and the results.

Lecture: Bruce on how to write an economics research paper. BCA reading assigned.

Speaker: Priscilla Gould, United Way of Lane County.

Week 3:

Lecture: Bill’s one hour version of Cost Benefit Analysis. BCA assignment given out, due at beginning of class week 4.

Speaker: Scott Spettel, EWEB

Week 4:

Chris Nystrom
Breakout session for the independent research students – private meetings scheduled with Bill and Bruce.

Week 5:

Tim Duy
Bruce’s Stata workshop,  assignment given out.

Week 6:

Stata homework due. Assign group topics.

Week 7:

Draft research proposal. Write up a 2 page research proposal. Specify research question, methodology, data sources, relevant literature. We will get these back to you by Sunday.

Week 8:
In class presentations.

Week 9:

In class presentations.

Week 10:

In class presentations. Your 5-10 page proposals are due Fri of finals week.

Model to forecast LTD payroll tax revenue.
